Why
a full day program?
Research on full day kindergarten has shown:
“Kindergarten report card progress and readiness for first grade
were rated significantly higher for full-day children.”
-Elicker, J. & Mathur, S. (1997)
After comparing similar half-day and full-day programs in a statewide
longitudinal study, Cryan and others (1992) found that full-day kindergartners
exhibited more independent learning, classroom involvement, productivity
in work with peers, and reflectiveness than half-day kindergartners.
(Cryan, et al. 1992)
Topics can be explored in depth and an extended literacy, math, science,
and social studies time provided.
There is a greater continuity of day to day activities.
(Stipek, et al., 1995)
Cost
$275 per month,
paid by the 7th of each month, September through May (nine installments).
The full day kindergarten program is an instructional tuition program
and not a licensed day care and therefore the tuition is not tax deductible.

Lottery
Process
Complete Form
of Intent and include the $25 registration fee, which will be credited
toward the first month’s tuition. Submit the form and registration
fee by April 18th to be included in the lottery. Those names not drawn
will have their money refunded.
Your child will then be placed in the full day kindergarten lottery. A
public drawing will be held on April 23rd and a balanced class of boys
and girls will be created.
You will be notified as to your child’s acceptance via phone call
by April 23rd. If your child is not drawn via lottery, he/she can be placed
on a waiting list. Please indicate your choice on the Form of Intent.
Acceptance
Priority
All-Day Kindergarten
tuition based programs have a tiered acceptance priority: First priority
is for students living within Cotton Creek's attendance area; second priority
is for students outside of the boundary attendance area but who reside
within District Twelve (includes in-district choice students); third priority
is for students who reside outside of District Twelve (includes out-of-district
choice students).
Our full day kindergarten program is based on building space and contingent
upon enrollment. Evaluation and continuation of the program will take
place on a yearly basis.
Suggestions
to look for in a child who is ready for a full day program:
• Is able
to listen attentively to a story read aloud.
• Mature for his/her age.
• Could easily adjust to a seven hour structured day.
• Has previously been in an all-day pre-school or daycare.
